Part of Bedlam Theatre’s Ten Fest, 2013. We invited audience members to join us for real dates on stage. Each date adhered to the parameters the audience member gave us via pre-show form. Audience members did not know which of us they would get as their date partner. Each date lasted three minutes.

New play by Constance Congdon, commissioned by Theatre Novi Most. Inspired by Russian writer Evgeny Shvartz’s play An Ordinary Miracle, Something About a Bear is a contemporary fairy tale featuring a mischievous wizard, a bear turned into a man, a cross-dressing princess, an epic snowstorm and a hysterical tyrant king; it is a play about the exquisite and terrifying power of love and will delight and inspire audiences of all ages with its magic, humor and heart.

This play blends one act absurdist plays — Fernando Arrabal’s Picnic on the Battlefield (1961) and Slawomir Mrozek’s Enchanted Night (1952) — into one slapstick-funny and dead-serious narrative, with unique connections between the characters in both pieces.

M2 begins when the life of Russian poet and playwright Vladimir Mayakovsky ends: his suicide in 1930. From there, a non-linear narrative flashbacks through his relationships with Lili Brik, his lifelong lover, and with Filippo Marinetti, author of the Futurist Manifesto.

Novi Most’s adaptation of the Epic of Gilgamesh is both a reliving of the great story of Gilgamesh and an examination of human limits as we experience them here and now. At the center of the story are essential questions of how to define, and live, a human life.

Trapped inside a relationship tainted by boredom, hatred and mutual dependence, the couple argues relentlessly. Outside of their cell-like home, the war rages, reaches an apocalyptic climax and gives way to a victory celebration.
